PMI-RMP Exam Overview
What to Expect
The PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) exam has 115 questions and a 170-minute time limit. That works out to about 1 minute and 29 seconds per question. You need to score 70% or higher to pass. PMI exams report performance levels of Above Target, Target, Below Target, and Needs Improvement for each domain. You need to achieve an overall passing level, but PMI doesn't publish the exact cut score. The exam includes unscored pretest items.
Testing and Delivery
PMI exams are delivered through Pearson VUE at testing centers and online. The PMP exam uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT), meaning question difficulty adjusts to your ability level. You can take two optional 10-minute breaks during the exam.
Certification Renewal
PMI certifications require earning Professional Development Units (PDUs) during a three-year cycle. PMP holders need 60 PDUs: at minimum 35 in Education and 25 in Giving Back. PDUs can be earned through courses, webinars, creating content, or volunteering.
